Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
