Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
