Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Armed Clash at School in Nigeria
Armed assailants have killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students in an assault against a girls' secondary school in north-western Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The criminal group invaded the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on Monday, authorities reported.
The armed individuals "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and seizing the students from their hostel, an official report indicated.
An educational worker was lost their life while safeguarding the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now undergoing medical care.
Eyewitnesses described a large group of attackers, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who came shooting randomly to generate terror.
Local residents disclosed to media that the armed men then led a contingent of young women into adjacent wilderness.
The authorities announced they had sent "extra specialized police forces, alongside military personnel and local protection units" to the area.
