Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
